WE'RE LOSING ON PROP 8 MARRIAGE EQUALITY
If you thought equal marriage in California was a done deal, think again. Prop. 8 would take away equal rights, which is why CREDO is a committed opponent of Prop. 8.
A new poll by KPIX, San Francisco's CBS affiliate, shows Prop. 8 winning by a 5 point margin — 47 to 42 percent. California is poised to deny same sex couples the right to marry. Another poll from the well-respected firm Lake Research shows Prop. 8 winning by 47%-43%.
Equal rights are in trouble in California. Why? Because Prop. 8's backers have now raised over $18 million — $7 million in the past five weeks alone.
What are they using this money to do? Flood our airwaves with abject bigotry. Maybe you've seen their latest ad: a young girl comes home from school proclaiming, "Mommy, Mommy, today I learned I could marry another princess!" Rather than tell her daughter, "I hope you marry someone wonderful when you grow up, no matter what gender that person is," the mother is horrified and a stern man comes onscreen with fearmongering propaganda that disparages equal marriage.
