It's a another beautiful day in the bay area, the sun is shining, people are out taking care of chores, or doing recreations. Tourist are visiting museums, strolling along the piers, parks and streets of SF suddenly it hits without warning an earthquake. What do you do? Where do you go? How will your family, neighbors and communities respond? I've been studying these response problems for some time now attending community meetings and forums on disaster preparedness, reading up on all the plans from the feds homeland security, state plans and FEMA. I've looked at local city government plans and preparations and local communities across the bay and all of them reveal one glaring conclusion and that is you, all of us
we are the major flaw in all of there planning and preparations.
Are You Ready is a process I've developed that begins to organize US by creating the dialog, surveying our neighborhoods, learning about our resources and gathering locations, designating key community businesses, institutions, etc as emergency information resources. R U Ready doesn't replace any plans or processes already in place or under development rather it incorporates those developments so that other communities can learn what others are doing. Now here's the kicker: All of this begins with you so to find out more and to join the R U Ready Team just leave your name, e-mail address and any special skills you may wish to highlight. - Steve Conley served on the first elected LSB for 9 months in 2004 and previously on the old elected LAB -- Steve was tireless in organizing the first and only successful KPFA Town Hall Meeting which resulted in citations for excellence from the San Francisco Bd of Supervisors. He's never involved in his own ego, and is just plain good folks who works amicably with everyone for the greater good.
